As I have mentioned before, Sammy doesn't talk....pretty much at all. So after a shared concern between us and our pediatrician, we had him evaluated by a speech therapist. And the outcome was that Samual's verbal skills are basically at a 15 month level.....which is not good considering he will be two next month. So he has been approved for therapy.
We had our first sessions last week. She is going to begin by teaching him some basic signs for communication purposes and to also get him in the habit of copying gestures. Once he has this down, we will eventually move into getting him to copy sounds with his mouth and then on to, hopefully, talking.
So far so good, he is telling us "more" and "milk" (which we use for any drink) and "eat" using his signs. It's so sweet and wonderful to see how happy he is when he uses his signs and we understand him. I love it!

i have a friend that has a son that was going through the same thing. they are still going to speech therapy classes but just wanted you to know, by the age of 2, he became much more verbal!
just give Sammy some time and everything will be just fine!
I'm glad the speech therapist was able to give him some tools to help him communicate what he wants. I bet that helps him to alleviate some of the frustration :)
And what a coincidence! We saw something on PBS last weekend, a sign language show-that we ended up picking up two of the exact same signs Sammy just learned and we're trying to teach Nathan-milk and eat. He isn't doing them readily on his own yet to communicate to us what he wants-but when we know he wants something to eat or drink-we make the signs and he's copying us... Can't wait until he finally makes the signs on his own initiative or just starts speaking.
Again-congratulations on the progress he's making :) We're happy for Sammy and for you too!!
